Dental Insurance & Payment Options at Cambridge Centre Dental Care
Figuring out what your dental coverage actually includes — and what happens when you do not have any — is one of the more frustrating parts of accessing care. We try to make this as straightforward as possible at our Cambridge clinic.
Below is a plain breakdown of every insurance plan we accept, every payment method we take, and what you need to know about government dental programs before your appointment.
Private Dental Insurance
We accept all private dental insurance plans. If your employer provides extended health benefits, or if you carry a personal dental plan, you can use it here.
Our front desk team will verify your coverage before your appointment and submit claims directly to your insurer where possible. If your plan requires you to pay first and claim later, we can provide you with all the documentation you need for reimbursement.
A few things worth knowing about private insurance in Ontario:
Most plans cover preventive services (cleanings, exams, X-rays) at a higher rate than restorative work (fillings, crowns) or major procedures (implants, orthodontics). Many plans have annual maximums — typically between $1,000 and $2,000 — and these reset each calendar year. If you are close to your maximum, it can be worth timing larger treatments to make the most of two benefit years. If you have coverage under two plans (for example, you and your spouse both have work benefits), we can coordinate between them to reduce your out-of-pocket cost.
For any significant treatment, we recommend requesting a predetermination before we begin. That means we submit your proposed treatment plan to your insurer in advance, and they confirm in writing what they will cover. It removes the guesswork.
Government Dental Programs
Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
Cambridge Centre Dental Care is enrolled in the Canada Dental Care Plan.
The CDCP is a federal program for Canadians who do not have private dental insurance and whose household net income is under $90,000 per year. Coverage levels depend on income:
- Under $70,000 annual household income: 100% of eligible costs covered
- $70,000 to $79,999: 60% of eligible costs covered
- $80,000 to $89,999: 40% of eligible costs covered
Covered services include dental cleanings, exams, X-rays, fillings, extractions, and partial and complete dentures.
If you are not sure whether you qualify or have questions about your CDCP coverage, you can contact Service Canada directly at 1-833-537-4342 (option 2), or check your eligibility through the Government of Canada CDCP portal.
Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB)
We accept the Non-Insured Health Benefits program for eligible First Nations and Inuit patients.
NIHB covers a broad range of dental services including exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals, dentures, and more. Eligible clients generally do not pay deductibles or co-payments for covered services — we bill the program directly, which means most patients have no out-of-pocket costs at the point of care.
To access NIHB dental benefits, you will need to show your client identification at your appointment so we can bill the program on your behalf.
Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP)
We accept the Interim Federal Health Program, which provides temporary dental coverage for eligible refugees, refugee claimants, and protected persons in Canada.
Please note: As of May 1, 2026, the federal government introduced a 30% patient co-payment for supplemental health services under IFHP, including dental care. This means IFHP now covers 70% of eligible dental costs, and patients are responsible for the remaining 30% at the time of service. Basic health care (doctor visits, hospital care) remains fully covered with no co-payment.
IFHP covers urgent and essential dental services — primarily care needed to relieve pain, treat active infection, or address dental trauma. Routine preventive care and elective procedures are generally not covered.
Claims are handled through Medavie Blue Cross. Please bring your IRCC eligibility document (Acknowledgement of Claim, Refugee Protection Identity Document, or other IRCC-issued documentation) to your appointment so we can verify and bill your coverage.
Payment Methods
For costs not covered by insurance, or for patients without coverage, we accept the following:
- Cash
- Credit card
- Debit card
- Cheque
- Interac e-Transfer
iFinancing
For larger treatments, we offer payment plans through iFinancing, a third-party financing option that lets you spread the cost of your care over time. If you are considering a treatment that feels out of reach at a single payment — dental implants, orthodontics, or a significant restorative case — ask our team about iFinancing at your appointment or during your consultation.
