Put your anxiety behind at Cambridge Centre Dental Care
A visit to the dental office can be a very stressful, emotional event for some patients. If you have a hard time getting through a dental procedure because of nerves or anxiety, you can relax — Cambridge Centre Dental Care offers options that could help put you at ease.
What is Oral Sedation?
Oral Sedation is when a patient receives medication to relieve their anxiety and minimize any discomfort during a dental visit. The sedative medication is administered orally or by intravenous (or both), and you enter a state of dreamy sleepiness. You may remain awake, but do not care what is happening around you – and you do not remember anything after the procedure is over.
What is Sleep Dentistry?
Another option we offer is Sleep Dentistry. For a Sleep Dentistry procedure, we bring in an anesthesiologist, and they administer medication that helps you to fall asleep. You remain asleep during the entire procedure, and wake up when it’s over.
Who can benefit from Sleep Dentistry?
Almost anyone adult, teen or child is a candidate for Oral Sedation or Sleep Dentistry. These options are particularly useful for people with a fear of dental visits, or people with a history of anxiety/panicking, but it's also preferred by people who would simply rather not be "aware" during a procedure.
Patients are allowed to go home following the procedure, but cannot drive for the rest of the day — and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The medication wears off very quickly, but could leave you feeling unsteady for the first few hours.
