Regular hygiene visits help keep your teeth and gums healthy
Daily brushing and flossing is critical to maintaining healthy teeth and gums, but it doesn’t take care of everything! It’s very important to come into Cambridge Centre Dental Care for regular hygiene visits. These appointments provide your teeth and gums with a thorough cleaning, inspection, and preventative maintenance.
During these appointments, we will "scale" your teeth — removing tartar build-up — and polish the surface — removing minor stains. You may also receive a fluoride treatment to help fight decay. These visits also provide an opportunity for us to tell you if you are brushing and flossing correctly, and examine your teeth and gums for potential problems.
If your teeth require restorative work, it's important to find out as soon as possible in order to prevent the decay from spreading. At Cambridge Centre Dental Care, we use an exciting new technology called DIAGNOdent to find tooth decay. .
What is DIAGNOdent?
Cavities — especially ones in the pits and valleys of your teeth — can be difficult to detect using traditional X-rays, which are taken from a side angle.
DIAGNOdent is a harmless, painless laser beam — similar to a laser pointer. We use it to gently scan your teeth, checking for cavities below the surface. DIAGNOdent works by measuring the laser fluorescence within your teeth, and reporting the results. Clean, healthy teeth show little or no fluorescence. Teeth with cavities show higher readings of fluorescence. Using DIAGNOdent allows us to detect tooth decay early, and treat it before it becomes more serious.
It's also important to have your gums inspected, because periodontal disease (gum disease) can lead to serious health problems — including heart attacks. Regular hygiene visits to our team to spot problems and take action immediately — preventing the issues from getting worse.
Cambridge Centre Dental Care also offers a special Brown Bag program. Bring in your dental care supplies from home — electric toothbrushes, floss threaders, Waterpiks — and we’ll show you how to use them properly and get the most benefit from them!
